Characters Present[]

Summary[]

Angelica makes Chuckie think that he has to choose a career soon or there won't be any jobs left for him. So, he decides to be an ice cream man and practices with the rest of the kids. When the ice cream melts, he tries hand hand at being a flower man and a librarian, but nothing seems to work out right. Will Chuckie find the perfect job for himself? - Descriptions from Klasky Csupo

Plot[]

Angelica has a toy "Joke-Box", a device with a microphone and a "laugh button". She tries telling jokes to some toys lined up on the couch, but they don't respond to her, and she thinks they're a "lousy audience". She goes out into the yard and tries a joke on Tommy, Chuckie, Phil and Lil, but they don't get the joke she tells them. Angelica says that she will be a stand-up "chameleon" when she grows up, because she found out you can make lots of money by telling jokes. She tells the babies they'd better laugh at her jokes "or else". She tries telling another joke ("What did the ghost eat at his birthday party?") At this point, Chuckie starts laughing, and Angelica tells him that wasn't the funny part. When she says the punch line ("I scream"), she's met with silence. When she says that that was the funny part, the babies put on forced laughter. Angelica tells them that she supposes they all know what they want to be when they grow up. Tommy, Phil and Lil all don't know. Angelica asks them what they're waiting for, seeing as they're "already one year old." She tells Chuckie that, being two, he's already "practically grown up", and he needs to decide right away what he will be, or else the good jobs will all be taken, and he will have to do "something yucky." Chuckie is sure there's something he's good at but has trouble thinking of what it might be. Angelica warns him that he doesn't have much time left to decide and walks off to try some jokes on Stu and Chas, who are working on installing a fence.

Chuckie is worried by what Angelica said and doesn't want to be left with a "yucky" job. Tommy assures him that they will figure out a good job for him. He hears Angelica telling the "I scream" joke to Stu and Chas, and this makes him think that Chuckie could be an ice cream man. Chuckie thinks that's a good idea. He carries around tubs of ice cream from the freezer in his wagon and pretends it's an ice cream truck. Unfortunately, it's a warm day, and when Chuckie tries to serve the ice cream to his friends, it melted. Chuckie got ice cream on his face when he tried to pull off the lid, and his dad comes by and wipes the ice cream off. Chuckie doesn't think that being an ice cream man is right for him after all. Phil suggests Chuckie could try being a garbage man, but Chuckie feels that occupation would be "too stinky". Tommy suggests a fireman, but Chuckie says that would be "too hot". Dil points out a "pretty" flower, and Tommy thinks a flower man would be a good job, as flowers "smell good and make people happy."

Chuckie thinks he would be good at that job. He puts together an assortment of flowers and grass and offers some to Phil and Lil. Chuckie shows off some dandelions, and sneezes when he smells them, causing the puffballs to fly off. He picks up a flower, and the petals fall off. Phil decides to take a leaf. Lil says that she would like a rose from the bushes. When Chuckie tries to grab a rose, he cuts himself on the thorns, and cries. Chas makes Chuckie feel better by kissing his booboo and giving him a kiss on the cheek, and he advises Chuckie to stay away from the roses (noting that Chuckie is probably allergic to them, anyway.) Chuckie determines that being a flower man is "too dangerous". Just then, Dil throws a Dummi Bears baby book onto the ground, and this gives Tommy the idea that Chuckie could be a library man. He thinks this would be a job that Chuckie would be good at, but Chuckie has doubts. The twins encourage Chuckie, saying how fun libraries are (especially with the tables to climb on and the chairs with good stuff stuck under them.) Chuckie decides to give this a try.

Chuckie has a huge stack of books on the sofa for his friends to browse through, while he sits at a "desk". Chuckie accuses Lil of being too loud, and says you're supposed to be quiet in a library. Lil and Phil end up arguing over whether or not Lil was being loud, and Chuckie yells for silence. He ends up getting told off by the twins for being loud in a library setting. Tommy, Phil and Lil "check out" the books they've chosen. As they're looking at their books, Chuckie waits at the desk, and gets restless. He asks when the books will get returned. Phil says "when (they're) done reading them". Chuckie, however, can't wait any longer, and grabs the books from his friends. Chuckie yanks Phil's book away and ends up falling backwards into the sofa, and the stack of books falls on top of him. Chuckie feels that he's not good at anything he's tried to do, and cries.

As the dads have a lemonade break and Angelica continues telling them jokes, Chuckie sits down sadly beside Dil. Dil knocks his toy blocks off the tray of his baby seat, and cries. Chuckie retrieves the blocks and gives them back to Dil, telling him not to cry. He gives Dil a kiss, and Dil feels better right away. Hearing Dil crying, Stu and Chas come over, but Stu sees that Chuckie has "everything under control." Chas is proud of his son, whom he calls "a born daddy". This makes Chuckie finally decide on what he'll be when he's grown up: a daddy! Looking over at his father, Chuckie says that he thinks being a daddy is "the bestest job of all!"
